Stephen Woody received the prestigious Long Leaf Pine Award. This award is the highest honor a North Carolina governor can bestow. The award was presented in Waynesville at the reunion of natives and descendants of the area whose roots are tied to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The reunion has been attended by hundreds since 1937.
