The prayers of the people for the 10:45 Eucharist at Trinity Episcopal Church, Sunday, October 13, 2024 in the wake of Hurricane Helene.
Written by the Rev. Amy Peterson
Deacon: Because we serve a savior who knows what it is to suffer, let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need, saying Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Intercessor: Loving God, we pray for your church, and for the people of God in all places, that we would be knit together in joy and in sorrow, in mutual communities of caring love, and that your love would strengthen us to love our neighbors. May we be bearers of hope and resilience in our communities, places of refuge in the midst of crisis and disaster. Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
Intercessor: Gracious God, even the most basic of our daily needs demand more of us, now; give us the grace to give ourselves grace, and patience and grace for those outside who can not fully understand what we are facing. Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
Intercessor: Healing God, we hold in your presence all those who continue to suffer in the aftermath of hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, fires, and other calamities, here in Buncombe County and around the world, remembering especially those who have lost loved ones and homes, and those whose communities have been washed away. Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
Intercessor: Creator God, we grieve with you at the loss of so many plants, animals, trees, habitats, and ecosystems: we ask your healing for the creatures and places we have loved. Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
Intercessor: Restoring God, we give thanks for first responders and those who have worked tirelessly to restore our water and power systems, to clear trees from our roads, and to rebuild what has been lost. Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
Intercessor: Mighty God, we pray for decision-makers, those who lead our world, our nation, our state, and our community, that their choices might create a more beautiful, whole, resilient world. Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
Intercessor: Laboring God, we pray for artists, farmers, and all those laborers whose livelihoods were lost to the floods, that you would heal their hearts and provide for their needs. Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
Intercessor: God of new life, we remember all those who have died in these days. And for the parents of Roger and Mary Jane Gregg, in whose memory the altar flowers are given. Give to them eternal rest, and let light perpetual shine upon them. Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
Celebrant: Eternal God, give us grace to trust you, and strength to follow you now and always, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
