Jackson Israel, son of Tom and Whitney Israel, and grandson of Gay Coleman, is a member of Scout Troop 8 and wanted to create a pollinator garden for his Eagle project.
He approached Art Garst, long time parishioner who has led 4 previous Eagle Scout projects Trinity, to ask if there were a suitable place on Trinity’s campus for his garden. These two collaborated on the renovation of an area off the northeast corner of the Sanctuary; first removing the unsightly nonnative plants and mismatched fencing that were there. Stones were imported to construct a sitting spot with views along Aston Street.
The ‘Flame Thrower’ Redbud should provide beauty and shade for years to come. Other plantings include native Beautyberry, Blueberry, Elderberry, Aster, Foamflower, Baptisia, Yarrow, and a Butterfly Weed.
Jackson led his fellow Scouts in reworking the irrigation line, preparing the soil, and planting this garden.
